GREENSBORO, N.C. \u2014 A 21-year-old woman has died from injuries she sustained in a crash involving a moped and an SUV earlier this month, according to the Greensboro Police Department.<\/p>\n
Police identified the victim as Anastasia Estrella Cooper, who died on June 19 as a result of injuries suffered in the collision that occurred on June 14.<\/p>\n
According to investigators, the crash happened shortly before 3 a.m. on Spring Garden Street near Eula Street. Authorities said Makayla Kaitlynn Ouboun Theng, of Graham, was driving a Lexus SUV westbound on Spring Garden Street ahead of a man and woman riding a moped in the same direction.<\/p>\n
Police said the SUV made a U-turn in front of the moped, resulting in a collision. Cooper and the other rider on the moped suffered serious injuries and were transported to a local hospital for treatment. Despite medical efforts, Cooper later succumbed to her injuries on June 19.<\/p>\n
Following an investigation, Theng was arrested and initially charged with driving while impaired and failing to yield resulting in serious injury.<\/p>\n
After Cooper\u2019s death, additional charges were filed against Theng, including felony death by vehicle, felony serious injury by vehicle, and unsafe tires. Authorities said she was given no bond.<\/p>\n
The crash remains under investigation as detectives continue to review the circumstances leading up to the collision.<\/p>\n
The death of Cooper has left family members, friends, and members of the Greensboro community mourning the loss of a young woman whose life was tragically cut short. Loved ones continue to grieve as the legal process moves forward in the case.<\/p>\n
