It is with profound sadness that family, friends, and members of the Gulfport community mourn the tragic and untimely passing of Nykel Poole, 19, affectionately known as \u201cBrat Kel,\u201d whose life was cut short during a shooting on Monday night in Gulfport, Mississippi.<\/p>\n
According to authorities, the shooting occurred at approximately 8:45 p.m. on June 29, 2026, in the 2000 block of 32nd Avenue. Responding officers found Nykel suffering from what appeared to be a single gunshot wound. Despite the efforts of first responders, she was pronounced deceased at the scene at 8:55 p.m., according to Harrison County Coroner Brian Switzer.<\/p>\n
The tragic incident also left two other people with gunshot wounds. One of the surviving victims, Kateria Moore, remains in critical condition after being airlifted to a hospital. A second victim was transported by ambulance to Memorial Hospital and also remains in critical condition.<\/p>\n
Authorities have arrested John Gaddis III, 34, in connection with the shooting. Detectives say the incident stemmed from an ongoing narcotics-related dispute involving Gaddis and one of the victims. He has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with Nykel\u2019s death, along with two counts of aggravated assault, and is being held at the Harrison County Adult Detention Center on a $2 million bond.<\/p>\n
