An inmate at the Women\u2019s Huron Valley Correctional Facility has died after being hospitalized two weeks earlier, marking the fourth inmate death at the facility within a two-month span, according to the Michigan Department of Corrections.<\/p>\n
Officials confirmed that Dalephenia Jones, 62, who had been serving a life sentence since 1994, died on July 2 at Trinity Health Hospital. Prison officials said Jones suffered a cardiac event approximately two weeks before her death and was transported for medical treatment.<\/p>\n
The Department of Corrections stated that Jones had multiple documented chronic medical conditions that may have increased her risk for cardiac-related complications. She was reportedly receiving care under a chronic medical treatment plan prior to her hospitalization.<\/p>\n
Authorities described her death as unexpected and said an internal investigation is underway to review the circumstances that led to her transfer from the facility to the hospital.<\/p>\n
Jones\u2019 death is the latest in a series of fatalities at the prison. Since May 13, three other inmates have also died. Ashley Hoath, 36, died on June 6 at Trinity Health Hospital after being transported from the facility. Rebecca Fackler, 57, died on May 17, and Khaira Howard, 28, died on May 13.<\/p>\n
The Michigan Department of Corrections says it is actively reviewing the recent deaths and the events surrounding Jones\u2019 medical emergency and hospitalization.<\/p>\n
