Family members, friends, and members of the Narragansett community grieve the tragic passing of Jordan S. Monroe, 25, of Narragansett, Rhode Island, following a drowning incident at School House Pond on Sunday, July 5, 2026.<\/p>\n
Officials report that emergency responders were called out at approximately 1:38 p.m. after a report of a possible drowning at the beach area on Narragansett Indian Tribal property. Crews from the Charlestown Police Department, Charlestown Rescue Service, and Charlestown Fire Department responded and were guided to an area about 100 yards offshore, where two men had capsized a fiberglass canoe while fishing.<\/p>\n
Investigators said one of the men managed to make it safely back to shore. Jordan Monroe, however, went under the water while attempting to swim back and did not resurface. A large-scale search operation was quickly launched with support from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management Environmental Police.<\/p>\n
Monroe was later recovered a significant distance from shore. Life-saving efforts were performed immediately at the scene before he was transported by ambulance to Westerly Hospital, where he was sadly pronounced deceased.<\/p>\n
Preliminary findings indicate that neither individual in the canoe was wearing a life jacket, and no flotation devices were aboard at the time of the incident. Authorities also noted the area operates as a swim-at-your-own-risk recreational site.<\/p>\n
As the investigation continues, Jordan\u2019s family and loved ones are left facing an unbearable loss. He is remembered for the moments he shared, the relationships he built, and the impact he had on those around him.<\/p>\n
