Two women were killed in a devastating two-vehicle crash on Highway 73 late Saturday night, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety (TXDPS).<\/p>\n
Authorities identified the victims as Hillary Newton, 38, of Port Arthur, and Blanca Sandino, 45, of Port Arthur.<\/p>\n
Investigators said preliminary findings indicate that Newton was traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes of Highway 73 when her vehicle collided head-on with a vehicle driven by Sandino.<\/p>\n
The impact of the crash proved fatal for both drivers, who were pronounced deceased as a result of their injuries.<\/p>\n
Officials also confirmed that three children, ages 12, 14, and 16, were inside one of the vehicles at the time of the crash. They survived the collision.<\/p>\n
Texas DPS said the investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to determine all contributing factors in the wrong-way crash.<\/p>\n
Emergency responders remained at the scene for an extended period as they assisted the injured and worked to clear the roadway.<\/p>\n
