According to the Metro Nashville Police Department, the collision occurred at approximately 6:30 p.m. at the intersection of Murfreesboro Pike and Town Park Drive near Donelson Pike.<\/p>\n
Investigators said Bankole was driving a silver Lexus RX350 and was attempting to turn left onto Murfreesboro Pike from Faircloth Drive when his vehicle was struck by a southbound black Tesla driven by Ali Al-Attabi, 22.<\/p>\n
Authorities said the impact struck the Lexus on the rear passenger side, causing the SUV to spin at least one and a half times before coming to rest near Town Park Drive. Investigators reported that Bankole was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle during the crash.<\/p>\n
Emergency responders rushed him to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he later died from the severe injuries he sustained.<\/p>\n
Court documents state that Al-Attabi told investigators he believed he was traveling approximately 70 miles per hour in a 45-mile-per-hour speed zone at the time of the collision. He reportedly said he accelerated after another vehicle cut him off and that he was attempting to pass that vehicle before the crash occurred.<\/p>\n
Following the investigation, Al-Attabi was arrested and booked into the Metro Jail on a charge of vehicular homicide by reckless conduct. His bond was set at $75,000.<\/p>\n
