According to Scott County Coroner Mark Sutton, the crash involved a vehicle carrying four occupants that struck an emergency vehicle while it was assisting at the scene of an unrelated earlier accident near the 141-mile marker of I-75.<\/p>\n
The driver and front passenger of the vehicle were pronounced deceased at the scene. They were later identified as 61-year-old Darren Paul Nelson and 62-year-old Shauna Colleen Nelson, both of Knoxville, Tennessee. Authorities said the couple was traveling back home to Tennessee when the collision occurred.<\/p>\n
The two occupants in the backseat were injured in the crash and transported to a Lexington hospital. Officials said they remained in stable condition.<\/p>\n
