A Bridgeport police officer and longtime first responder was killed early Monday morning in a tragic motorcycle crash in Danbury, officials confirmed.<\/p>\n
The victim was identified as 38-year-old Cooper Whiteside of Danbury, who was riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle when it collided with a northbound Jeep Compass on Sugar Hollow Road at approximately 2:45 a.m.<\/p>\n
According to the Danbury Police Department, Whiteside and his passenger, 34-year-old Brittany Islami of New Milford, were both pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Jeep suffered serious injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.<\/p>\n
Bridgeport Police Chief Porter confirmed Officer Whiteside\u2019s death and shared condolences with his family, friends, and fellow officers.<\/p>\n
\u201cOfficer Whiteside served with honor and dignity, beginning in July 2024,\u201d the chief said, noting that he would be deeply missed by the department and the community he served.<\/p>\n
Before joining the Bridgeport Police Department, Whiteside was also a longtime member of the West Redding Volunteer Fire Department, where he served in several roles, including firefighter, EMT, lieutenant, training captain, and vice president.<\/p>\n
The fire department described Whiteside as someone who was known and respected by many, highlighting the impact he made through his years of service.<\/p>\n
Investigators said a preliminary review showed the motorcycle was traveling southbound and the Jeep was traveling northbound on Sugar Hollow Road when the crash occurred. The Danbury Police Accident Investigation Team responded to conduct reconstruction and collect evidence.<\/p>\n
Sugar Hollow Road was closed for several hours while authorities investigated the scene.<\/p>\n
