With profound sadness and heavy hearts, family, friends, and members of the Houston and Shreveport communities are mourning the tragic loss of Derrick Coleman, 32, who died after a shooting in the parking lot of a downtown Shreveport hotel early Monday morning.<\/p>\n

According to the Shreveport Police Department, officers were dispatched at approximately 1:07 a.m. on Monday, July 20, 2026, to the Holiday Inn Express & Suites in the 200 block of Lake Street following reports of a man suffering from gunshot wounds to the upper body.<\/p>\n

When officers arrived, they found Coleman in the parking lot with life-threatening injuries. Police immediately rendered aid before he was transported to Ochsner LSU Health Shreveport for emergency medical treatment.<\/p>\n

Despite lifesaving efforts by medical personnel, Derrick Coleman, of Houston, Texas, was pronounced deceased at 7:19 a.m. at the hospital.<\/p>\n

The Caddo Parish Coroner\u2019s Office later identified Coleman as the victim. An autopsy has been ordered to help determine the exact cause and manner of death as investigators continue to gather evidence.<\/p>\n

Coleman\u2019s death marks Shreveport\u2019s 27th confirmed homicide of 2026, underscoring another tragic loss for the community.<\/p>\n

The Shreveport Police Department\u2019s Violent Crimes Unit continues to investigate the fatal shooting. Authorities are urging anyone with information related to the incident to contact the Shreveport Police Department at 318-673-7300<\/a>, option 3.<\/p>\n

As the investigation continues, Derrick Coleman\u2019s family and loved ones are left mourning an unimaginable loss. The community extends its heartfelt condolences to all who knew and loved him during this difficult time.
