Family, friends, and members of the Anderson, South Carolina community are mourning the tragic and sudden loss of Jose Isidro Felipe Garcia, 29, who lost his life following a drowning incident at Lake Hartwell on Sunday afternoon,<\/p>\n
According to the Anderson County Coroner\u2019s Office, emergency crews were dispatched shortly after 2 p.m. following reports of a possible drowning at Broyles Landing in Townville, located on Lake Hartwell.<\/p>\n
Officials said Garcia had been spending time at the lake with friends and family before the tragic incident unfolded. Preliminary investigation revealed that he was attempting to swim back to shore from a nearby island when he suddenly went underwater and never resurfaced, leaving those around him in panic as they desperately searched for help.<\/p>\n
First responders, including emergency rescue teams, arrived quickly at the scene and immediately began search efforts. Authorities confirmed that Garcia\u2019s body was recovered from the water approximately 25 minutes after crews arrived, but sadly, he could not be saved.<\/p>\n
Investigators later determined that Garcia had been swimming without wearing a life preserver and was found in approximately 5 to 6 feet of water.<\/p>\n
The coroner officially ruled the cause of death as freshwater drowning, and the manner of death was determined to be accidental.<\/p>\n
