54-Year-Old Man Fatally Shot in Home Before Suspect Takes Own Life

Two men are dead following a murder-suicide that occurred Sunday morning in the Glenside section of Abington Township, according to the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office.

Authorities say police were called to a residence on the 3000 block of Spruce Avenue shortly before 11 a.m. after receiving a 911 report of a shooting. When officers arrived at the scene, they found 54-year-old William “Billy” Maurer inside the home suffering from a fatal gunshot wound.

Investigators also located 28-year-old Brandon Maurer at the residence with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was transported to Jefferson Abington Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Officials reported that multiple family members were inside the home at the time of the shooting but were not physically harmed. Police confirmed that a firearm belonging to Brandon Maurer was recovered at the scene.

A preliminary investigation conducted by the Montgomery County Detective Bureau and Abington Township Police indicates that the incident stemmed from an argument between the two relatives, who were uncle and nephew. Investigators believe Brandon Maurer shot his uncle during the dispute before turning the weapon on himself.

Authorities have not released further details regarding what led to the argument. The investigation remains ongoing as officials continue to review evidence and interview witnesses who were present during the incident.

Police have not indicated any ongoing threat to the public.
