Driver Killed in Head-On Crash With USPS Truck in Augusta County

AUGUSTA COUNTY, Va. — A 29-year-old man was killed and a U.S. Postal Service driver was injured following a head-on crash in Augusta County, according to Virginia State Police.

Officials said the crash happened at approximately 4:47 p.m. in the 2800 block of Parkersburg Turnpike. A preliminary investigation indicates a Dodge Ram 2500 was traveling westbound when it crossed the center line and struck an eastbound U.S. Postal Service box truck in an offset head-on collision.

Following the impact, the USPS vehicle ran off the right side of the roadway and struck several trees. The Dodge Ram continued off the left side of the roadway before also striking a tree.

The driver of the Dodge Ram was identified as Sean Arnott, 29, of Craigsville, Virginia. He was extricated from the vehicle by firefighters and transported to Augusta Health, where he was pronounced dead.

The driver of the USPS box truck, David Derring, 79, of Waynesboro, Virginia, was also taken to Augusta Health with non-life-threatening injuries.

Virginia State Police said the crash remains under investigation as troopers work to determine what caused the vehicle to cross the center line.
