PIERCE, Idaho — Authorities have confirmed the identities of seven people injured in a mass casualty fire in Pierce on July 5, as investigators continue working to determine what caused the devastating incident.
The Clearwater County Sheriff’s Office said emergency responders were dispatched around 2:56 a.m. Sunday to what was described as a mass casualty incident. Officials initially reported approximately eight burn victims, but later corrected the number, stating that seven victims were transported from the scene for medical treatment.
Authorities said the earlier count was inaccurate due to the confusion and rapidly changing circumstances as victims were treated and transported. The sheriff’s office also said investigators are aware of reports about additional individuals who may have been injured and are asking anyone with information to contact the agency.
The victims publicly identified through online fundraisers include KC Matos, 22; Emylee Macaluso, 20; Jason Mohl Jr.; Tristen Bonner; Johnathan Halle; Marissa Larson; and Jake Wilson.
According to fundraising efforts created by family and friends, several victims suffered severe burns and were transported to specialized burn centers for extensive medical treatment.
KC Matos was reported to have suffered burns covering a significant portion of her body and was transported to a Seattle burn center, where she is expected to undergo multiple surgeries, skin grafts, and rehabilitation.
Emylee Macaluso was also reported to have suffered severe burns and was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where she remains under intensive medical care with her family by her side.
Jason Mohl Jr. was identified as another victim suffering serious burns to his legs, arm, and neck. He is receiving treatment in the Seattle burn unit, according to a fundraiser organized for his recovery.
Tristen Bonner was also identified as one of those injured. Organizers said he suffered burns to his arms and hands and may require additional medical procedures, including possible skin grafts.
Johnathan Halle was identified as being in critical condition after suffering second- and third-degree burns. According to a fundraiser, he faces a lengthy recovery involving skin grafts and extensive medical care.
Marissa Larson was also identified as a victim of the Pierce bonfire incident. Family members said she suffered severe burns and has begun what is expected to be a long recovery process.
Jake Wilson was identified as another victim through a fundraiser organized by a family member. Organizers said Wilson suffered severe burns and is expected to remain in Seattle for an extended period while receiving burn treatment, including skin graft procedures.
The Clearwater County Sheriff’s Office said the cause of the fire remains under investigation. Officials said they are not releasing additional details about how the fire started or whether it spread beyond the original fire area while they await findings from the Idaho State Fire Marshal’s Office.
As the investigation continues, families of those injured are focused on recovery while communities rally around the victims with support, prayers, and assistance during what is expected to be a long and difficult healing process.
