Family, friends, and members of the Bartow community are mourning the heartbreaking and tragic loss of 44-year-old Ryon Hartwig, who passed away following a devastating motorcycle crash on Friday evening in Hillsborough County.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the fatal crash occurred at approximately 6:45 p.m. on June 12, 2026, along State Road 60 near Clarence Gordon Jr. Road in Plant City. Authorities said Ryon was traveling westbound on his Harley-Davidson motorcycle when a GMC Sierra pickup truck unexpectedly pulled out from a private driveway and entered directly into his path, leaving little time to avoid a collision.
Investigators say the truck, driven by 59-year-old Santiago Ruiz Rangel of Mulberry, collided with the motorcycle, causing severe and catastrophic injuries. Due to the violent impact of the crash, Ryon Hartwig tragically passed away at the scene despite emergency responders arriving quickly and doing everything possible.
Following the investigation, Florida Highway Patrol troopers arrested Santiago Ruiz Rangel and charged him with DUI Manslaughter. Authorities reported that he was transported to the Hillsborough County Jail after investigators determined alcohol played a major role in the fatal crash.
According to officials, the driver’s blood alcohol concentration measured 0.170, which is more than twice Florida’s legal limit of 0.08. The crash remains under active investigation as troopers continue reviewing all details surrounding the heartbreaking incident.
As family and friends grieve this unimaginable loss, many are remembering Ryon Hartwig for the life he lived, the memories he created, and the love he shared with those around him. His passing has left an emptiness that words cannot fully describe, and his absence will be deeply felt by everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Although his life ended far too soon, the love and memories he leaves behind will continue to live on forever in the hearts of those who loved him most.
Rest in peace, Ryon Hartwig. You will be forever loved, deeply missed, and never forgotten.
