Family, friends, and members of the Harlan, Iowa, community are mourning the tragic loss of Dillion Michael Wood, 31, who died in a fatal single-vehicle crash on Interstate 880 in Pottawattamie County on Wednesday morning.
According to the Iowa State Patrol, the crash occurred at approximately 8:10 a.m. near the 9.6-mile marker on Interstate 880. Authorities reported that Wood was driving a 2008 GMC Acadia westbound when, for reasons that remain under investigation, the vehicle left the traveled portion of the roadway. The SUV entered the north ditch and crashed.
Investigators said Wood was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident and was ejected from the vehicle during the crash. Tragically, he suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Following the incident, his body was transported to the State Medical Examiner’s Office, where an autopsy was scheduled to be performed as part of the ongoing investigation.
