Family, friends, and members of the Poinsett County community are mourning the heartbreaking loss of Treyonte Smith, 30, who tragically lost his life in a drowning incident in Rivervale on Thursday evening.
According to authorities, the Poinsett County Sheriff’s Office received a call shortly after 6 p.m. reporting a possible drowning in the Rivervale area. Emergency responders, including deputies, Poinsett County Search and Rescue teams, and personnel from the Lepanto Fire and Police Departments, quickly arrived on scene and began an urgent search effort.
Officials said fire crews deployed two boats to assist in the water search, while deputies also utilized drones to help locate the missing man. Despite these efforts, the situation ended in tragedy.
“A short time later, the body of 30-year-old Treyonte Smith was located in the water,” Chief Deputy Ryan Price said. Smith was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities confirmed that Smith’s body will be transported to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory in Little Rock for examination as part of an ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death. The investigation remains active.
The heartbreaking news has left family members and friends in deep grief as they remember Treyonte, affectionately known as “Trey Trey.” Loved ones describe him as a beloved son, relative, and friend whose presence brought meaning and connection to those around him. His loss has created a void that words cannot fully express.
During the recovery efforts, the scene became increasingly difficult as emotions ran high among family members and bystanders. Officials reported that Smith’s brother, Keltric Smith, was later arrested after allegedly becoming disruptive and involved in an altercation with law enforcement personnel at the scene.
Keltric Smith faces charges of second-degree assault and second-degree criminal mischief following the incident.
As news of Treyonte’s passing spread, an outpouring of prayers, condolences, and support began to pour in for the Smith family. The community has come together to offer strength and comfort during this painful and emotional time, standing beside the family as they grieve.
