Fatal Collision in Hickory Leaves 32-Year-Old Motorcyclist Dead

The Hickory Police Department is investigating a fatal motorcycle crash that occurred Thursday evening, June 18, 2026, on 13th Avenue Drive SE.

According to police, the crash happened around 7:55 p.m. when a 2021 Kawasaki motorcycle, driven by 32-year-old Hickory resident Levi Scovern, was traveling westbound on 13th Avenue Drive SE. At the same time, a 2025 MINI Cooper was exiting the parking lot of the Hampton Inn and turning left onto 13th Avenue Drive SE, also heading west.

Investigators said the motorcycle then struck the rear of the MINI Cooper, resulting in a serious collision. Emergency personnel responded to the scene and rendered aid to Scovern before he was transported to Frye Regional Medical Center, where he was later pronounced deceased.

Authorities stated that, based on the preliminary investigation, excessive speed by the motorcycle appears to have been a contributing factor in the crash. Police have not reported any injuries to the driver of the MINI Cooper at this time.

As of Friday, June 19, no charges have been filed in connection with the incident. Officials noted that the investigation remains ongoing as they continue to review evidence, including roadway conditions, vehicle positions, and witness statements.

The Hickory Police Department is urging anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has additional information to come forward. Information can be shared with Master Police Officer Elijah Adkins at eadkins@hickorync.gov or by contacting the Hickory Police Department at 828-328-5551.

Further updates are expected as investigators continue working to determine the full circumstances surrounding the fatal collision.
