Family, friends, classmates, and members of the Irwinton community are mourning the heartbreaking and untimely loss of LuVenya Knight, 15, whose life was tragically cut short in a fatal shooting on the evening of June 19, 2026.
According to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred at a residence on Hagan Circle outside of Tennille. At approximately 9:45 p.m., Washington County 911 received a report that a female had been shot at the home. Deputies were immediately dispatched to the scene to investigate.
Upon arrival, deputies discovered LuVenya Knight lying unconscious and not breathing inside the residence. Emergency responders and deputies quickly began life-saving efforts in a desperate attempt to save the teenager’s life. Despite their efforts, LuVenya succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The tragic death of the 15-year-old has sent shockwaves through the community, leaving loved ones devastated as they struggle to come to terms with such a profound loss. Family members and friends remember LuVenya as a bright and precious young girl whose smile, kindness, and presence brought joy to those around her. She was a beloved daughter, granddaughter, relative, friend, and student whose future was filled with dreams, promise, and endless possibilities.

Authorities identified the suspect as Kermarion Markel Washington, 22, of Tennille. Deputies took Washington into custody shortly after the incident, and he was subsequently arrested. He is currently being held at the Washington County Jail pending a bond hearing in Washington County Superior Court.
Investigators have charged Washington with aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, felony murder, malice murder, child molestation, and statutory rape. Officials have stated that additional charges may be forthcoming as the investigation remains ongoing.
The Washington County Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation with assistance from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. Authorities continue to gather evidence and work to determine all of the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
