Two people were killed and three others were injured in a single-vehicle crash Saturday morning in Claiborne Parish, Louisiana, according to Louisiana State Police.

Troopers said the crash happened around 11:35 a.m. on Louisiana Highway 9 near Louisiana Highway 518. Investigators determined that a 2022 Ram pickup truck was traveling southbound when, for reasons still under investigation, it left the roadway and struck a tree.

Authorities confirmed that two passengers died as a result of the crash. They were identified as 22-year-old Katie Barber of Tylertown, Mississippi, and 14-year-old Benson Brady of Kentwood. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver and two additional passengers were also injured and transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Officials said their injuries were described as moderate, and they are expected to receive continued care as they recover.

According to Louisiana State Police, impairment is not believed to be a factor; however, standard toxicology samples were collected and submitted for analysis as part of the ongoing investigation.

Investigators are continuing to review what caused the pickup truck to leave the roadway. Road conditions, speed, and other contributing factors are all being examined as part of the reconstruction process.

As family members, friends, and communities grieve this heartbreaking loss, many are remembering Katie and Benson for the lives they lived and the moments they shared with those who loved them.
