A tow truck driver from Stuart was killed Friday night in western Palm Beach County after his vehicle lost control and crashed into palm trees, according to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies said 54-year-old Terrence Martin was traveling southbound in the 600 block of U.S. Highway 27 North in South Bay when he approached a right-hand curve. Investigators say Martin lost control of the tow truck while navigating the turn, causing the vehicle to spin clockwise.
Authorities said the tow truck struck two large palm trees on the driver’s side. The impact caused the flatbed portion of the truck to separate, sending it approximately 170 feet through a nearby residential yard before it entered the property of a towing business and struck a parked trailer loaded with steel.
Martin was pronounced dead at the scene from injuries sustained in the crash, deputies said.
The investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
