Family members, friends, and members of the Carlisle community are mourning the tragic loss of Norma Jean Howard, 74, of Carlisle, who died after being struck by two vehicles while walking on Interstate 75 early Saturday morning in Warren County.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the crash happened around 5:19 a.m. in the northbound lanes of I-75 near mile marker 31 in Monroe. Troopers with the Hamilton Post responded to reports of a pedestrian crash and confirmed that a semi-truck struck a woman walking in the roadway. The truck was driven by 44-year-old Barbaros Yilmaz of Chatham, New Jersey.

Investigators said that after the initial impact, Norma Jean Howard was then struck by a second vehicle, a Ford Fusion driven by 57-year-old Freddy Perdoma Sanchez of Middletown. Despite emergency response efforts at the scene, she was pronounced dead from her injuries.
