A 26-year-old motorcyclist was killed Saturday night following a collision involving a motorcycle and a vehicle in Henrico County, according to police.
Officers with the Henrico Police Division responded at approximately 9:35 p.m. to the intersection of N. Airport Drive and Airport Place after receiving reports of a crash involving a motorcycle and a passenger vehicle. Upon arrival, officers found the motorcycle operator lying in the roadway with severe traumatic injuries.
Despite emergency response efforts, the motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities have identified the victim as 26-year-old Hunter Southard of Henrico.
According to a preliminary investigation, Southard was traveling northbound on N. Airport Drive when his motorcycle collided with a Hyundai Genesis that was traveling southbound and attempting to make a left turn onto Airport Place.
Police said the driver of the Hyundai remained at the scene following the crash and has been cooperating fully with investigators. At this time, authorities have not announced any charges related to the incident.
Investigators continue to work to determine the exact circumstances that led to the collision. Police stated that speed and alcohol are not currently believed to have been factors on the part of the Hyundai driver, though the investigation remains ongoing.
