19-Year-Old Jalen J. Tavares Killed in Dorchester Shooting, Police Investigating

Boston police are investigating a fatal shooting that claimed the life of a 19-year-old man in the Dorchester neighborhood on Monday evening.

According to the Boston Police Department, officers assigned to District B-3 (Mattapan/Dorchester) responded to reports of a person shot in the area of 115 Milton Avenue at approximately 7:38 p.m. on June 22, 2026. Upon arriving at the scene, officers located a victim suffering from a gunshot wound behind the property near 6 Selden Street, in the rear of 115 Milton Avenue.

Boston EMS personnel responded and attempted to provide emergency medical assistance. Despite their efforts, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities later identified the victim as Jalen J. Tavares, 19, of Lakeville.

The Boston Police Department’s Homicide Unit has launched an active investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Detectives are working to determine what led to the incident and whether any suspects were involved. Investigators continue to gather evidence, review information, and speak with potential witnesses as they seek answers.

Police are urging anyone with information about the shooting to contact Homicide Unit detectives at 617-343-4470. Community members who wish to remain anonymous may also submit information through the Boston Police CrimeStoppers Program by calling 1-800-494-TIPS or by texting the word “TIP” to CRIME (27463).

Officials noted that photos and videos related to the investigation may also be submitted anonymously. Authorities emphasized that the identities of those who provide information through CrimeStoppers will be protected.

The investigation remains ongoing as detectives work to establish the circumstances that led to the fatal shooting and bring clarity to the case.
