Grandmother, Daughter, and Four Children Found Dead in Upstate New York Apartment

A Utah father says he was just days away from being reunited with his four children before they were found dead inside their grandmother’s apartment in Mechanicville, upstate New York.

Brady Harmon told WRGB that he had been counting down the days until July 1, when a court order would allow his children — Harper, Hudson, Gavin, and Gracelynn — to spend two months with him for the first time in more than six years.

Instead of preparing for their long-awaited reunion, Harmon is now facing the devastating task of planning their funerals.

The children were found dead on Tuesday during a welfare check at the apartment where they lived with their mother, Sarah Myers, and grandmother, Amy Steadman. All three adults were also found deceased inside the residence.

According to investigators, one of the children suffered fatal stab wounds, while the remaining deaths appear to involve suspected intentional poisoning. Authorities said officers recovered prescription and over-the-counter medications from the home, along with syringes and other evidence suggesting deliberate actions. Toxicology results are still pending.

Brady Harmon, who lives in Utah, said he had spent years fighting for custody after Myers reportedly left with the children in 2019 and moved to New York without notice. He said he was finally granted a court order allowing summer visitation beginning July 1.

“I went from thinking I was going to see my kids, to now I’ll never see them again,” Harmon told the outlet.

Authorities confirmed the investigation is ongoing. Mechanicville Police Chief William Rabbitt said evidence found inside the apartment includes a handwritten note and other findings suggesting intentional poisoning and possible internal involvement, though toxicology results will determine the final cause and manner of death.

Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the tragedy, including prior custody disputes and family history.
