Petersburg Teen Dies After Vehicle Overturns in Field

A 16-year-old student from Summerfield High School in Petersburg, Michigan, died Friday following a UTV crash in Summerfield Township, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities said the crash occurred at approximately 5:24 p.m. in the 19700 block of Taft Road. Investigators reported that the teenager was operating a 2021 Polaris Ranger in a private field when he lost control while navigating a curve. The vehicle overturned, ejecting all three occupants.

The driver, identified as Conor Harrigan, was pronounced dead at the scene. Two juvenile passengers were also involved in the crash and were transported to a local hospital as a precaution. Both were later released.

Officials stated that none of the occupants were wearing seatbelts at the time of the incident, and alcohol is not believed to have been a factor. The crash remains under investigation by local authorities.

Summerfield Schools confirmed that Harrigan was a student at the district and said support services have been made available for students and staff following the incident. School officials also noted that the loss has deeply affected the school community.
