David Rodgers Identified in Fatal Boating Accident Near Erie Bluffs State Park

A Butler County man has died following a boating accident off a Pennsylvania state park, according to officials.

NBC News affiliate WICU reported that the incident occurred around 8 a.m. Tuesday, when a boat carrying five men was traveling a few miles from Erie Bluffs State Park. Authorities say the vessel began taking on water before eventually capsizing.

Four of the men were able to make it to the surface after the boat overturned, but one did not resurface.

The Erie County Coroner later identified the victim as David Rodgers, 63, of Chicora. Officials confirmed that his death was ruled an accidental drowning.

Emergency crews responded to the scene, but Rodgers was later recovered and pronounced deceased.

Authorities have not released additional details regarding what caused the boat to take on water. The incident remains under review as officials work to piece together the events leading up to the accident.

The loss has left family, friends, and the local community mourning, as loved ones remember Rodgers and the life he lived.

Officials continue to remind boaters to exercise caution on the water, especially when conditions change unexpectedly.
