Jerry City, Ohio — A 27-year-old man is in custody after authorities say he fatally shot his friend inside a home in the Village of Jerry City early Friday morning.
According to the Wood County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched at approximately 4:21 a.m. on Friday, July 3, to a residence in the 900 block of Main Street after Logan Carrier, 27, called the sheriff’s office and reported that he had killed his friend.
When deputies arrived at the home, Carrier was taken into custody without incident.
Inside the residence, deputies discovered Thomas “T.J.” Sager, 30, of Bowling Green, suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. Despite emergency response efforts, Sager was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities said Sager’s fiancée, Jazmin Barnes, and the couple’s 5-year-old child were also inside the home when the shooting occurred. Neither was physically injured during the incident.
The Wood County Sheriff’s Office was assisted in the investigation by the Wood County Coroner’s Office, Wood County Prosecutor’s Office, the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation, the Wood County Dog Warden, and Mid-County 120 EMS.
Investigators have not released additional details regarding a possible motive or the circumstances leading up to the fatal shooting. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue to gather evidence and determine exactly what occurred inside the residence.
Carrier remains in custody while the case proceeds through the legal process.
