In Loving Memory of Justin Calloway

With profound sadness, we remember and honor the life of Justin Calloway, 24, whose life came to a heartbreaking end following a workplace accident at an active coal mine in Berry, Alabama.

According to officials, the incident occurred on July 1 at the Warrior Met Coal mine on Highway 69 North. Justin was working underground when a machinery accident took place. Emergency crews responded after he was found unresponsive beneath the surface and worked to bring him to the surface for medical assistance.

Despite rescue efforts, Justin was later pronounced deceased. His sudden passing has left loved ones and coworkers devastated as they come to terms with the loss of a young man whose life was cut far too short.

The Tuscaloosa County Violent Crimes Unit is assisting with the investigation and will work alongside the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences Medical Examiner’s Office to determine the official cause and manner of death.

Federal agencies, including the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA), have also launched an investigation into the workplace incident. Warrior Met Coal stated that it notified the appropriate federal and state agencies as required by law and is fully cooperating with investigators as they work to determine the circumstances surrounding the accident.

Justin’s passing has deeply affected not only his family and friends but also his fellow miners and the Berry community. Those who knew him are remembering the life he lived, the dedication he brought to his work, and the memories he created with those around him.

As the investigation continues, the community stands beside the Calloway family, offering prayers, condolences, and support during this incredibly difficult time.

May Justin Calloway rest in eternal peace.
