With profound sadness, family, friends, and members of the Orlando community are mourning the tragic loss of Amareon Anthony, age 17, whose life was cut short following a drowning incident off Daytona Beach, Florida.
According to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office and Beach Safety officials, Amareon went missing on Friday evening after becoming caught in a powerful rip current while swimming in the ocean with another person. Emergency crews were called at approximately 7:36 p.m., prompting an immediate and coordinated rescue response along the shoreline.
Multiple agencies joined the search efforts, including Volusia County Beach Safety, the Sheriff’s Office, the U.S. Coast Guard, and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. Rescue teams worked tirelessly using boats, Jet Skis, drones, sonar equipment, and aerial support in an effort to locate the missing teen.
Due to extremely dangerous surf conditions and active red flag warnings, in-water search operations were suspended overnight for the safety of responders. The search resumed early Saturday morning, when recovery efforts led to the discovery of a body matching Amareon’s description. Officials later confirmed his identity and notified his family.
