It is with profound sadness that we remember and honor the life of Trevino Hall, 36, Sumter High School Assistant Basketball Coach, whose life ended far too soon following a tragic two-vehicle crash on Monday afternoon, July 6, 2026.
According to Sumter County Coroner Robbie Baker, Hall was identified as the victim of the fatal collision. South Carolina Highway Patrol Master Trooper Mitchell Ridgeway said the crash occurred around 2:36 p.m. when a 2017 Ford SUV traveling south crossed the center line and collided head-on with a 2019 Hyundai SUV traveling north.
Hall, who was operating the Hyundai SUV, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Ford SUV suffered injuries and was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment. The investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
Beyond the heartbreaking circumstances of his passing, Trevino Hall leaves behind a legacy built on dedication, compassion, and service to others. He was more than an assistant basketball coach — he was a mentor, role model, husband, father, and a valued member of the Sumter community.
The Sumter High School family is grieving the loss of a coach who dedicated himself to guiding and supporting young athletes. During his four years with the school’s coaching staff and his involvement with the Sumter Splash AAU program, Hall made a lasting difference in the lives of many young people.
Hall’s love for basketball was known throughout South Carolina. He was often described as a true “gym rat,” someone whose passion for the game kept him close to the court. Whether coaching, encouraging players, or simply supporting the sport he loved, Hall brought enthusiasm and commitment wherever he went.
Those who knew him remember his humor, kindness, and the genuine care he showed toward every player he coached. He believed in helping young athletes grow not only as basketball players but also as individuals, offering guidance and encouragement that extended beyond the game.
Sumter School District Superintendent Dr. Gerald Gary remembered Hall as a “dedicated mentor and coach who made a meaningful difference in the lives of many students.” He said Hall’s influence went far beyond basketball and that his contributions to the Sumter High School community will continue to be remembered.
Although his time with his players, colleagues, and community ended too soon, the impact Trevino Hall made will remain for years to come. The lessons he taught, the relationships he built, and the lives he touched are part of the legacy he leaves behind.
The community continues to keep Hall’s wife, children, family, friends, athletes, and colleagues in their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
Rest in peace, Coach Trevino Hall. Your dedication, passion, and love for others will never be forgotten. Your legacy will forever remain a part of Sumter Basketball and the many lives you inspired.
