37-Year-Old Jesse Schaeding Identified as Victim in Poplar Bluff Shooting, Suspect in Custody

A 37-year-old Poplar Bluff man has been identified as the victim of a deadly shooting that occurred Sunday evening on the Business Highway 60 bridge over the Black River in Poplar Bluff, Missouri.

According to Butler County Coroner Jim Akers, the victim has been identified as Jesse Schaeding of Poplar Bluff.

Poplar Bluff Police Chief J.R. Keirsey said a man and woman were walking across the bridge when they were approached by a suspect who allegedly shot Schaeding before fleeing the scene.

Authorities confirmed that a suspect has been taken into custody in connection with the shooting. The suspect’s identity has not been released as the investigation remains ongoing.

The Poplar Bluff Police Department continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident and is asking anyone with information that could assist investigators to contact them at 573-785-5776.
