With profound sadness, family, friends, coworkers, and members of the Cincinnati community are mourning the heartbreaking loss of Jonathan Allen Young, 46, a devoted City of Cincinnati employee whose life ended following a tragic crash involving a Metro bus and city maintenance vehicles on the Norwood Lateral.
Jonathan was serving the community on Thursday afternoon as part of a scheduled traffic project with the City’s Department of Public Services. According to authorities, he was one of three city employees working along the westbound lanes of State Route 562 when a Metro bus struck a city maintenance pickup truck from behind. The impact pushed the truck into the trailer of another maintenance vehicle, resulting in a devastating chain-reaction collision.
Jonathan sustained life-threatening injuries in the crash and was transported to a nearby hospital, where he sadly passed away despite the dedicated efforts of emergency responders and medical professionals.
Another Department of Public Services employee was injured and is expected to recover. The Metro bus driver was also taken to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center for treatment. The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision.
Jonathan’s passing has deeply affected not only his family but also the coworkers who served alongside him each day. As a member of the Department of Public Services, he played an important role in helping maintain the city’s roadways and ensuring the safety of the traveling public. His commitment to serving Cincinnati will be remembered with gratitude and respect.
City leaders expressed their sorrow following the tragedy. Cincinnati City Manager Sheryl Long described the loss as one felt by an entire family, noting that “Team Cincy” is more than a workplace—it is a community united by service and dedication. Mayor Aftab Pureval also extended his condolences, calling the incident an unimaginable tragedy and offering prayers and support to Jonathan’s loved ones and fellow employees.
As the Cincinnati community reflects on this heartbreaking loss, many are honoring Jonathan Allen Young for his dedication, hard work, and willingness to serve others. Though his life ended far too soon, the impact of his service and the memories he created with those who knew him will continue to live on.
May his family, friends, coworkers, and everyone mourning his passing find comfort in the love that surrounds them, strength in one another, and peace in remembering a life devoted to serving his community.
