Family, friends, and members of the Horn Lake, Mississippi community are mourning with deep sorrow and heavy hearts following the tragic and sudden loss of Kejuan Williams, 20, who was fatally shot in a late-night incident on Chickasaw Cove.
According to the Horn Lake Police Department, officers were dispatched at approximately 11:15 p.m. on Saturday, June 13, to a residence in the 5200 block of Chickasaw Cove after receiving reports of a shooting.
When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered Kejuan Williams of Horn Lake, suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite the rapid response of emergency personnel and life-saving efforts, authorities confirmed that the 20-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene from a single gunshot wound to the head.
Investigators quickly identified a suspect in the case as 19-year-old Elijah Avent, also of Horn Lake. Police said Avent fled the scene immediately following the shooting, prompting a swift search by law enforcement officers.
Authorities later located Avent and took him into custody without further incident. He was subsequently booked into the DeSoto County Jail at approximately 9:30 a.m. on Sunday. Avent has been charged with one count of murder and is currently being held without bond, according to jail records. He is scheduled to appear in court on July 16 at 9 a.m.
Officials stated that the incident appears to be isolated, and investigators have confirmed that the suspect and victim knew each other prior to the shooting. However, a motive has not yet been determined, and authorities say the investigation remains ongoing as detectives continue gathering evidence and speaking with witnesses.
