In Loving Memory of Aboubacar Fofana, 18

Family, friends, and members of the Columbus, Ohio community are mourning the tragic, heartbreaking, and unimaginable loss of Aboubacar Fofana, 18, whose young life was taken far too soon following a fatal shooting Saturday afternoon in Columbus.

According to investigators, officers with the Columbus Division of Police responded at approximately 3:20 p.m. to reports of shots fired in the 1400 block of Worthington Centre Drive, near a Kroger parking lot, after witnesses reported hearing gunfire in the area. When officers arrived, they searched the scene but were unable to immediately locate anyone suffering from injuries.

Authorities later learned that Aboubacar Fofana, despite suffering serious gunshot wounds, had managed to transport himself to a nearby hospital in hopes of receiving emergency treatment. Medical teams worked to save him, but tragically, his injuries proved too severe, and he sadly passed away a short time later.

In an update released Sunday evening, investigators announced that 18-year-old Mohamed Jalloh has been charged in connection with the fatal shooting. Police say surveillance footage captured several people near the area at the time of the incident, and detectives continue working to gather evidence as the homicide investigation remains active. Authorities are currently searching for Jalloh and asking for public assistance in locating him.

As loved ones now struggle with this painful tragedy, many are remembering Aboubacar not for the way he died, but for the life he lived, the moments he shared, and the love he brought to those around him. Though his life ended far too soon, his memory will forever remain in the hearts of family and friends who will continue to cherish him always.

Rest in Peace, Aboubacar Fofana. You were deeply loved, your life mattered, and your memory will live on forever. Gone far too soon, never forgotten.
