Friends, family, and members of the Petal community are mourning the tragic and sudden loss of 18-year-old Cayden Magee, a beloved recent Petal High School graduate who lost his life following a suspected drowning in a small neighborhood lake in Petal on Sunday night.
Forrest County Coroner Lisa Klem confirmed Cayden Magee’s identity as investigators continue working to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident. Emergency responders were called after reports of a possible drowning, and despite urgent efforts to locate and assist him, Cayden was recovered from the water and later pronounced deceased.
Cayden had only recently celebrated one of life’s proudest milestones, graduating from Petal High School in May. His graduation was a moment filled with joy, pride, and hope for the future, as he was recognized for his outstanding academic achievements. He earned honors along with an Academic Endorsement, Career & Technical Endorsement, and ACT Benchmark recognition—reflecting years of hard work, dedication, and perseverance.
Those who knew Cayden describe him as a gentle, respectful, and incredibly bright young man whose presence brought warmth and positivity to those around him. He was admired not only for his intelligence, but also for his kindness, humility, and the quiet strength with which he carried himself.
