A 26-year-old Amory woman has died following a single-vehicle crash that occurred on June 17, 2026, on Highway 25 south of Airport Road in Monroe County, Mississippi.
According to preliminary information from the Monroe County Coroner’s Office, Jakiya Smith was driving an SUV southbound on Highway 25 at approximately 7:27 p.m. when her vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree. The crash occurred less than one mile from her residence.
Smith was transported to North Mississippi Medical Center-Gilmore in Amory and later transferred to North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo, where she succumbed to her injuries at 2:19 a.m. on June 18, 2026.
Authorities confirmed that three of Smith’s children were also inside the vehicle at the time of the crash. Two of the children were airlifted from Monroe County Airport to the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson for treatment, while the third child was transported to Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital in Memphis. Their conditions have not been released.
Multiple agencies responded to the scene, including the Becker-Athens Fire Department, Amory Fire Department, Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, and the Mississippi Highway Patrol, which is leading the investigation into the crash.
Funeral arrangements for Smith are being handled by Belle Memorial Funeral Home in Amory.
The investigation remains ongoing.
