Family, friends, and members of the Amory community are mourning the heartbreaking loss of Jakiya Smith, 26, who lost her life following a devastating crash in Monroe County, Mississippi. Her sudden passing has left loved ones heartbroken, as family now faces the unimaginable pain of losing a beloved mother, daughter, and friend.
According to the Monroe County Coroner’s Office, the crash happened on June 17, 2026, along Highway 25 south of Airport Road. Investigators said Jakiya was driving an SUV southbound at approximately 7:27 p.m. when the vehicle left the roadway and crashed into a tree less than a mile from her home.
Emergency responders rushed to the scene and transported Jakiya to North Mississippi Medical Center-Gilmore in Amory. Due to the seriousness of her injuries, she was later transferred to North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo, where doctors fought to save her life. Sadly, she passed away at 2:19 a.m. on June 18, 2026.
Officials confirmed that three of Jakiya’s children were also inside the vehicle during the crash. Two were airlifted to the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, while the third child was taken to Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital in Memphis. Their conditions have not been released.
The tragedy has left family and loved ones carrying deep pain, while many continue praying for the recovery of her children. Those who knew Jakiya remember a beautiful soul whose love and presence meant so much to the people around her.
Her passing leaves behind endless tears, broken hearts, and precious memories that will forever remain with those who loved her most.
