Gardendale Man Dies Following I-65 Crash in Jefferson County

Family, friends, and members of the Gardendale community are mourning the tragic and unexpected loss of 48-year-old Alfred Harkley, who died following a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 65 Saturday afternoon in Jefferson County.

According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, Harkley was traveling northbound when the Jeep Grand Cherokee he was operating left the roadway and struck a light pole around 3 p.m., approximately one mile north of Fultondale. The impact caused serious injuries, and emergency responders quickly arrived on scene to provide aid.

Harkley was transported to UAB Hospital in critical condition, where medical staff worked to save his life. Despite those efforts, he was later pronounced dead at the hospital. His sudden passing has left his family, friends, and neighbors in deep shock as they try to process the devastating news.
