Family, friends, and members of the West Portsmouth community are mourning the tragic loss of Jeffrey A. Hammonds, 50, who was killed in a devastating head-on motorcycle crash Sunday morning in Scioto County.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 9:35 a.m. on Dry Run Road, northwest of State Route 73 in Washington Township. Investigators said Hammonds was traveling northwest on a motorcycle when a vehicle heading southeast crossed the center line and struck his motorcycle head-on in a violent collision.
Emergency responders from multiple agencies rushed to the scene, including the Washington Township Fire Department, Portsmouth Emergency Ambulance Service, Scioto County Coroner’s Office, and Central Wrecker Service.
Despite those lifesaving efforts, Hammonds was pronounced dead at the scene due to the severity of his injuries. The driver of the other vehicle was transported to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, officials said.
