With heavy hearts, family members, friends, colleagues, and members of the Mission, South Dakota community are mourning the tragic and heartbreaking loss of Ty Valandra.
Ty’s passing has left an unimaginable void in the lives of those who knew and loved him. He is being remembered as a one-of-a-kind young man who made a lasting impact through both his athletic and academic achievements. Throughout his high school years, he represented himself, his school, and his Lakota heritage with pride, dedication, and respect.
Those who knew Ty describe him as hardworking, talented, and deeply respected among peers, teachers, coaches, and the wider community. His presence brought encouragement and positivity, and his absence is now deeply felt across NDN Country, where many youth are grieving his loss.
