Woman Killed in El Dorado Shooting; Man Arrested on Manslaughter Charge

A 31-year-old El Dorado woman was killed in a late-night shooting Wednesday, and a suspect has been arrested in connection with her death, according to local authorities.

Officers with the El Dorado Police Department responded at approximately 11:00 p.m. on June 24 to reports of a possible shooting in the East Side area near Main Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. When officers arrived, they found a woman suffering from an apparent single gunshot wound.

The victim was transported to Baptist Health Medical Center–El Dorado, where she later died from her injuries. Authorities identified her as Markivia Holmes, 31, of El Dorado.

Detectives with the department’s Criminal Investigation Division responded to the scene and launched an investigation. Investigators processed the area, collected evidence, and interviewed witnesses who reportedly provided details about the events leading up to the shooting.

As a result of the investigation, detectives identified 20-year-old Ronald Pierce of El Dorado as the suspect. Police located Pierce and took him into custody without incident.

Pierce was booked into the Union County Detention Facility and charged with manslaughter and a felony firearm offense. He remains in custody pending his first court appearance, which is scheduled for Friday, June 26, at 10:00 a.m. in Union County District Court.

The investigation remains active as detectives continue to gather information regarding the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
