Anna Melicher of Eveleth Killed in Interstate 94 Crash Near Eau Claire; Driver Arrested on Suspicion of OWI

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. — Authorities have identified the woman who lost her life in a tragic single-vehicle crash on Interstate 94 near Eau Claire as Anna Melicher, 27, of Eveleth, Minnesota.

According to the Wisconsin State Patrol, the crash occurred at approximately 10:31 p.m. on Monday, June 29, along the eastbound lanes of Interstate 94 near milepost 64.

Investigators said a pickup truck traveling east drifted off the roadway for reasons that remain under investigation. The vehicle then vaulted before coming to rest in the highway median.

Anna Melicher, who was riding as a back-seat passenger, suffered fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the pickup, Cyrus Muehlberg, 28, of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, was injured and transported to Mayo Hospital in Eau Claire for treatment. According to the Wisconsin State Patrol, responding officers observed signs of impairment during the investigation. Muehlberg was subsequently arrested on suspicion of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of an intoxicant or drug (first offense).

A third adult passenger in the truck was not injured.
