IN LOVING MEMORY: CONSTABLE ROBERT H. HAYWOOD

It is with profound sorrow that the family, friends, fellow officers, and the entire Harlan County community mourn the passing of 5th District Constable Robert H. Haywood, 56, of Wallins, who tragically lost his life following a single-vehicle accident on July 3, 2026, in the Bannerfork community.

At approximately 5:53 p.m., the Harlan County Coroner’s Office was notified by Kentucky State Police Post 10 of the crash on Bannerfork Road. Coroner John Derrick Noe responded to the scene, where Mr. Haywood was later pronounced deceased at 6:25 p.m.

Authorities reported that the vehicle left the roadway and struck a residence. While the investigation remains ongoing, officials believe Mr. Haywood may have experienced a medical emergency prior to the crash, which is believed to have contributed to the tragic incident.

Coroner Noe was assisted at the scene by Deputy Coroner John Jones, Kentucky State Police troopers, Lifeguard Ambulance Service, the Harlan County Sheriff’s Office, and Wallins Fire Department.

Constable Haywood was well known and deeply respected throughout Harlan County for his years of dedicated public service, commitment to duty, and care for the community he faithfully served.

His passing leaves a profound void not only in law enforcement but across all of Harlan County. He will be remembered for his service, his presence, and the lasting impact he made on those who knew him.

During this difficult time, heartfelt thoughts and prayers go out to the Haywood family, friends, fellow officers, and all who are mourning this tremendous loss.
