In Loving Memory of Montana Weathers

With profound sadness and heavy hearts, family, friends, and the Gary community are mourning the tragic and sudden loss of Montana Weathers, 10, whose life was cut short in a shooting in Gary, Indiana.

According to the Gary Police Department, officers responded at approximately 12:49 a.m. on Sunday to the 200 block of Chase Street, where a 10-year-old boy and a 50-year-old man had been shot and transported to the hospital for emergency treatment.

Despite medical efforts, Montana later died at the hospital. The Lake County Coroner’s Office identified him as Montana Weathers, who was reportedly visiting family for the July 4 holiday. The 50-year-old victim was later transferred to a Chicago-area hospital in critical condition.

Authorities also responded minutes earlier to a separate shooting at 19th Avenue and Hanley Street, where six people were injured. Investigators believe the two incidents are unrelated but are continuing to examine both cases as active investigations.

Police are urging anyone with information to come forward as they work to determine the circumstances behind the violence that shook the community.

Beyond the headlines, Montana is remembered as a young child full of innocence and promise, whose life ended far too soon in a heartbreaking act of violence. His passing has left family, friends, and the community in deep grief as they struggle to process the unimaginable loss.

Loved ones are leaning on one another for strength as they navigate this painful time, holding tightly to memories and the love Montana brought into their lives.
