With profound sadness, we remember and honor the life of John Ethan Regan-Langrick, 18, of Spring Grove, who tragically died following a devastating crash Sunday night in Richmond.
John’s unexpected passing has left family, friends, and loved ones mourning the loss of a young life taken far too soon. His death has brought deep sorrow to those who knew him as they cope with the heartbreak of losing someone with so much life ahead of him.
The tragic crash happened around 7:37 p.m. Sunday when a Richmond police officer, who was conducting an unrelated traffic stop in downtown Richmond, observed a silver sedan traveling westbound on Route 173 at a high rate of speed and entering lanes of oncoming traffic.
Shortly afterward, officers located the vehicle, a 2010 Toyota Corolla, after it had crashed into a 2021 Nissan Armada towing a camper at the intersection of Route 12, according to Richmond police.
Emergency crews with the Richmond Township Fire Protection District responded to the scene and worked to remove both drivers from the heavily damaged vehicles. The camper trailer separated from its frame during the collision and came to rest southbound on Route 12.
John was transported by air ambulance to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, where he was later pronounced dead in the intensive care unit on Monday, according to the Lake County Coroner’s Office.
Because John died at a Lake County hospital, the Lake County Coroner’s Office is conducting the death investigation. Officials said the preliminary investigation indicates that he died from complications related to blunt-force injuries sustained in the crash.
The adult female driver of the Nissan Armada was transported to Northwestern Medicine McHenry Hospital for treatment. Her condition has not been released.
As the investigation continues, John’s family and friends are left grieving the loss of a young man whose life ended unexpectedly. They are facing the pain of saying goodbye while holding onto the memories and moments that made him special.
The crash remains under investigation by the Richmond Police Department and the McHenry County Major Crash Assistance Team.
During this difficult time, thoughts and condolences are with John Ethan Regan-Langrick’s family, friends, and all those affected by his passing. May they find strength and comfort as they mourn this heartbreaking loss.
