Five family members lost their lives in a devastating shooting that occurred across multiple locations in East St. Louis, Illinois, according to authorities.
Illinois State Police said during a press conference that the shooting happened at three different locations, including Jones Park. Officials have not released the exact time the shootings occurred.
Authorities reported that seven people were shot, and five victims died from their injuries. Two additional victims remain in critical condition.
Police said all of the victims were related. The victims were identified by Illinois State Police as:
- Cherie May, 49
- Devin May, 24
- Patricia May, 74
- Quentin Thompson, 21
- Shania Thompson, 25
The tragic violence has left families, friends, and the East St. Louis community grieving the loss of multiple loved ones. The deaths of five relatives in one incident have brought heartbreak and sorrow to those who knew and cared for them.
Authorities have taken two 16-year-old suspects into custody. Police said both suspects are related to each other, and one of the suspects is related to one of the victims.
The investigation remains ongoing as Illinois State Police continue working to determine the circumstances surrounding the shootings and what led to the deadly violence.
