With profound sadness, family, friends, classmates, and members of the St. Francis de Sales High School and Toledo, Ohio community are mourning the heartbreaking loss of Anson Crandall, 18, whose life ended following a tragic drowning at a pond in north Toledo on Saturday night.
Anson, who was preparing to enter his senior year at St. Francis de Sales High School, was remembered as a talented young man with a passion for creativity and the arts. Those who knew him described him as someone whose presence, kindness, and artistic abilities made a lasting impact on the people around him.
According to authorities, Anson’s mother contacted police around 9 p.m. Saturday after becoming concerned that he had not returned home. She told officials that he had gone fishing earlier in the day at a pond located on Cleveland Street behind the Toledo Correctional Institution and was reported missing.
Toledo Fire and Rescue crews responded to the scene and began searching the pond. Shortly after arriving, emergency crews located Anson’s body submerged in the water. Despite rescue efforts, he was pronounced dead at approximately 9:43 p.m.
Police detectives and the coroner’s office responded to the scene as the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the drowning continues. Authorities have not released additional details, and the incident remains under investigation.
Anson’s unexpected passing has left his family, friends, classmates, teachers, and the entire St. Francis de Sales community devastated. The school has come together to honor his memory, provide support to grieving students and staff, and remember the young life that was lost far too soon.
As loved ones mourn Anson, they hold onto the memories he created, the artwork he shared, and the impact he made during his life. His creativity, spirit, and the moments he shared with others will continue to be remembered by everyone who knew and loved him.
May Anson Crandall rest in peace, and may his family, friends, classmates, and all who were touched by his life find comfort and strength during this difficult time.
