WAGONER, Okla. — A 77-year-old man has died following a fiery multi-vehicle crash near the intersection of Highway 69 and Highway 51 in Wagoner on Tuesday, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.
Authorities identified the victim as William Thornton, 77.
According to OHP, Thornton was driving when he failed to yield at a stop sign and entered the path of another vehicle traveling southbound on Highway 69. The impact caused Thornton’s vehicle to be pushed into a third vehicle that was stopped in the highway’s center turn lane.
Troopers said all three vehicles involved in the collision became engulfed in flames following the crash.
A fourth vehicle, which was stopped behind the third vehicle in the center turn lane, was also struck by debris from the collision, according to investigators.
Emergency crews responded to the scene, but Thornton was unable to survive his injuries.
The circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation as authorities continue working to determine the full details of the collision.
The Wagoner community is mourning the loss of William Thornton, whose life was tragically cut short in the devastating crash.
