Brayan Monzanga, 15, Dies in Tragic Drowning at Chain O’ Lakes

The Round Lake community is mourning the tragic loss of Brayan Monzanga, 15, who died following a drowning incident at the Chain O’ Lakes in Myers Bay on Pistakee Lake.

According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office and the Fox Lake Fire Protection District, emergency crews were called at approximately 6 p.m. Monday after Brayan entered the water from a boat while swimming with friends and did not resurface.

A large-scale search effort followed, with multiple agencies deploying rescue boats, dive teams, and an underwater drone device to locate the missing teen. After nearly two hours of searching, authorities located Brayan in the water. Officials said he was not wearing a life jacket at the time of the incident.

The Lake County Coroner’s Office determined that Brayan’s cause of death was consistent with drowning. Authorities continue investigating the circumstances surrounding how he entered the water.

Fox Lake Fire Deputy Chief Samuel Santiago described the incident as a tragedy and extended condolences to Brayan’s family, noting that the group had been enjoying a recreational day on the lake before the heartbreaking accident occurred.

Following Brayan’s death, a fundraiser titled “Support Brayan Monzanga’s Family in Tragedy” was created to help his loved ones with funeral expenses and other costs during this devastating time. Organizers said donations will go directly to the family as they face the unimaginable grief and sudden financial challenges caused by the loss.

Brayan’s passing has left family, friends, and the Round Lake community heartbroken as they remember a young life taken far too soon. Support and condolences continue pouring in for his loved ones as they navigate this painful loss.
