A 41-year-old motorcyclist was killed Wednesday morning in a single-vehicle crash in Rockingham County, according to authorities.
The victim was identified as Cristian Fuentes Pizarro, 41, of Grottoes, Virginia.
According to the Virginia State Police, troopers responded at approximately 7:30 a.m. to Oak Shade Road after receiving a report of a motorcycle crash.
Investigators said a preliminary investigation found that Fuentes Pizarro was traveling eastbound on a motorcycle when he reportedly lost control while traveling at a high rate of speed. The motorcycle ran off the right side of the roadway, continued through a fence, and ejected Fuentes Pizarro.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene, but Fuentes Pizarro was pronounced dead at the crash site.
The circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation as Virginia State Police continue working to determine the events that led to the fatal collision.
